EMDR for adults in person or online located in Colorado & Online only for Illinois
No, I do not provide marriage or family therapy. I work with individuals who are 18 and older. However, there may come a time in your work that you would benefit from bringing in a loved one and that is OK!
A: The initial session is the time for you to start to share your story, talk about your goals and what you would like to change. Another important aspect of the first session is deciding if we are a good fit. Do I seem like someone you can trust? We are establishing a relationship that will become the foundation for working together.
Yes! At this time, New Terrain Therapy accepts: Medicare, Cigna, Aetna, Optum (Oscar, United, Oxford) and BCBS Anthem.
New Terrain Therapy does utilize Headway for most admin and billing.
A: Our first initial appointment is our “intake assessment” which is 60 minutes. After this, appointments are 55 minutes. This is the standard length of a counseling session; primarily for insurances purposes.
A: Once you have made a decision to see a therapist, you still might be apprehensive about the process. Many people feel nervous before their first appointment. Therapy is a shared journey; a shared process. You can expect to be respected. You can expect that I will offer opinions and suggestions from time to time but I will not tell you what to do.
A: Therapy often works best with weekly or bi-weekly meetings to foster trust and increase results through consistency and dedication to the work. Once some or all of your goals are met, meeting less often.
A: I ask for 24 hours notice of cancellation or you will need to pay a cancellation fee of $75 for late cancels or no shows. In case of emergencies, I do offer a one time freebie. It’s important that we meet consistently in order to make progress.
I believe in the combination of readiness and willingness. First, a person must be in a place in their lives where they are ready for therapy. Willingness to embrace the learning process. If these things are in place, and if the person is with a therapist whom they feel can provide the right amount of guidance and support, then change is very possible.
A: No, I am not a medical doctor. Many patients find medication can be helpful, but many of them also progress well in therapy without medication. If you want to be evaluated for psychiatric medication, either contact your primary care physician or a psychiatrist. If you are already taking medication, I am happy to coordinate care with your doctor.
I practice from various theories and techniques such as EMDR, Dialect Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Positive Psychology, Motivational Interviewing, Client-Centered Therapy, and Mindfulness.
I see individuals in person and virtually in Colorado.
I also am soon to be available virtually to individuals in Illinois as that's my "home state"
